Siberian Breed Standards, 05/01/2004

General Description

The Siberian is a medium-large feline with excellent physical condition, strength, and power, modified by a sweet facial expression. Siberians are slow to mature, taking upwards of 5 years. Females are considerably smaller than males.

Coat/color/pattern

This is a moderately long haired cat with a triple coat. An abundant ruff is set off the head. A tight undercoat, thick in winter.
Hair should vary from soft to coarse. Clear patterns are desirable but secondary to type. All traditional and pointed colors and combinations are accepted with or without white.
White or off-white allowed on chin, breast and stomach of tabbies; white allowed in most areas. Balance is well proportioned, with excellent health and no challenging temperament.

Head
The shape of the head is a modified wedge of medium to large with rounded contours. It is broader at the tip and narrows slightly to a full-rounded muzzle.

Ears
Medium-large, rounded, and tilts slightly forward. From the middle of the ear, the furnishings become longer and cover the base of the ear. Lynx tips are allowed.

Eyes
Large, almost round, slightly angled towards the base of the ear. No relationship between eye color to coat color or pattern.

Chin
Chin is well-rounded and is in line with the nose.

Muzzle
Muzzle is short in length but full and rounded. The transition between the side of the muzzle is gentle and inconspicuous.

Profile
The top of the head is almost flat, slight nose curvature of a gentle slope from forehead to the nose.

Neck
Rounded, substantial and well-muscled.

Body
The torso is medium in length, well muscled with the back arched slightly highter than the shoulders. A barrel shaped firm belly giving the sensation of solid weight.

Legs
Medium in length, hind legs are slightly longer than the front, substantial boning.

Feet
The feet are big and rounded, with toe tufts desired.

Tail
The tail is medium in length, wide at the base, tapering slightly to a blunt tip. The tail is somewhat shorter than the length of the body.
